outsourcing ICT can be said as one of the current trends for companies around the world to make their business processes. It is estimated that ICT outsourcing started in the early 190s in which Kodak uses external partners to manage their ICT resources. As Kodak is not competent in ICT, taking another company to help them manage ICT resources. This phenomenon occurs because the companies would like to focus their core business functions among other benefits. After only 20 years, outsourcing is now necessary for a lot of companies mostly in customer support and also back-office processes and this affects Malaysia as well. Currently, Malaysia is known as a major outsourcing hub for the world, where it is currently ranked third in the world after China and India in the outsourcing industry. This shows how significant is outsourced to developing countries.
Outsourcing Definition
Outsourcing is defined as a concept of contracting a part of the process of business organization of a third party who has the specific skills and services. The third party must have the necessary skills for the organization so that it is as expected the outcome of the work outsourced. Outsourcing can also be explained as the movement of one or more business functions of a company, including its assets to a third party service provider that provides a service for a defined period of time and the payment of a written agreement.
From these definitions, we can see that outsourcing can be defined with the following characteristics:
1. A company transferring one or many of the business processes to third parties.
2. A third has the skills and services required for the business process.
3. It has an agreement or contract between the two parties on price and expected result.
outsourcing Types
Outsourcing can be separated into two types, namely the total and selective outsourcing outsourcing.
The first is the total outsourcing, where the IT budget is used to pay external suppliers is about 80% or more of the total . For activities that have had only less than 80% of total outsourcing IT budgets, it will be named as the selective outsourcing. It is called as 'selective', because the company only select one or more IT functions to be outsourced to third parties.
In addition to these two main types of outsourcing, there are also other types of outsourcing that are usually the subdivision of these two main types as sourcing and the transition outsourcing.
